It is the ultimate challenge to create something that will last forever in one’s home, but then fades back into the environment as soon as you are done with it.

Frequently, plastics are the opposite of this - they become brittle with heat and light - and then when it is time to dispose of them all too soon, they persist in our environment for thousands of years.

That’s why we’ve used almost no plastic whatsoever in our construction, opting instead for classic metals and sustainable woods with genuine longevity.

We believe the best technology is the kind that doesn’t call attention to itself. So we are going to call attention it by writing about it here.

Great espresso starts at the pump…

…and almost all home espresso machines, no matter how fancy they pretend to be, use vibratory pumps that are as old as they are loud.

Instead, we built our own custom brushless gear pump - and then decided that wasn’t good enough, and designed a dual stage rotary vane pump. The result is not only a machine that is more than 50% quieter - but one that can be smaller and lighter because it does not need to withstand the brutal vibration inflicted by pumps of the past.

the secret to perfect temperature?

There is nothing worse than carefully dialing in your espresso, only to have that perfect extraction change for no reason. A likely culprit? The wildly drifting temperatures in many espresso machines, which can vary by as much as 15 degrees Celsius!

We’ve solved the problem a different way - by designing a machine that can work with water that is already hot, and keeping the water insulated as it passes through the machine. Creating a machine that can do this consistently, reliably, and silently, involved designing virtually every component from scratch.

The result is a freedom to use a far more thermally stable source of hot water - like the kettle you already have. And because no water is stored in the machine - it’s fresh every time.
